"BEWARE**The location appears to be operating a boot scam. The parking area lacks adequate lighting. The signs to pay $3 to park are small and obcure. One was knocked over and the other was behind tall weeds (see pictures). Two small signs were observed by the scales, but they were easily missed due to location and no lighting. Several drivers fell victim to the scam, including my husband. A man woke him around 3 in the morning to inform him that boots were on his truck and the charge for removal was almost $600. "Tammy" obviously had a lot of practice collecting truckers' hard earned money. It's really a sad statement of where our morals and ethics have gone in this nation."

"This place is horrible. Do not waste your time or energy trying to stop here. The restrooms are always filthy. The workers are rude as hell. The parking lot is full of garbage and trash everywhere. They refused to let truck drivers get fuel unless they turn over their driver's license first and they make everyone pay for parking overnight. Do not stop here."

"The system would not let me post no stars, so do not believe the one star above. This concerns the Marathon Station, 410 Martin Luther King, Jr. Pkwy, Phenix City, AL. I am a 69 year old, 130 pound female. My husband and I were just traveling through Phenix City. While my husband was getting gas, I went inside to use the bathroom and get a drink and chips. At the counter, the clerk (late 20s or early 30s, 5'9" or 10") entered the items and told me I owed $5.31. I opened my wallet and removed a $5 bill and handed it to her. Then I opened my change purse and removed a quarter, a nickel, and a penny and placed them each on the counter. She asked me while I was getting my money if I needed a bag, and I said, "No". She was holding the $5 bill, but not picking up the change. I looked up at her and asked if she said $5.31. She said yes, but still did not pick up the change. I looked at her again in confusion, and she looked back at me with such a hateful, sneering look and said, "It is common courtesy to place the money in my hand". I stared at her in surprise and misunderstanding for a second and then picked up my drink and chips and turned to walk away. About 2-3 feet from the door, I felt and heard the change hit around me. She had thrown all three coins at me. I turned around and looked at her again, and she said to bring the stuff back, I could not have it, I had to get it somewhere else. I looked at her for a couple more seconds and then decided to go to my husband who was waiting at the car. I was somewhat upset and a little frightened at that point. I had paid for the items, so I thought it best to just leave. While I was explaining to my husband what happened, the clerk came outside with the $5 bill, a nickel, and a penny (no quarter--I guess she could not find it). She handed me the money and took the drink and chips away from me. My husband followed her back into the station and asked what the issue was. She repeated the common courtesy line. She then told us to "get out" and threatened to call the police, which was fine with us, since we had done nothing wrong. But we just left. The more I thought about the incident, the more her behavior reminded me of the many videos we see on the news these days of young people beating old people up and stealing stuff in stores, in the street, and in subway/train stations. It was very upsetting. We will most definitely avoid gas, food, and facilities in Phenix City, AL, and all Marathon Stations not in our local area from now on. It has heretofore been our assumption that Marathon Stations are generally respectable places. I am leaving this review, but I cannot imagine the owner or manager will care, judging by the state of the ladies bathroom -- filthy, no soap, no paper towels. That's always a sign of bad management. Another relevant note is that hand to hand contact is to be avoided when possible, especially by the elderly, because of the covid epidemic. It had absolutely nothing to do with me being rude. I was not rude, just cautious by habit now. I am leaving this review to maybe prevent someone else from experiencing this treatment. I try to figure out why she would behave that way, and I can just surmise that she was somehow getting her kicks by being mean and hateful and intimidating to someone more than twice her age and less than half her weight. Not remotely understandable, but a sign of the times, unfortunately."

"Like every other person complaining - I did not see their sign that says "Pay Parking lot". I was in a spot for about an hour and they put a boot on my truck - $575.00 I'm pretty sure the booter was driving around the lot and saw me park. He waited for me to pull my curtains then put a boot on the truck and woke me up. The sign is small and impossible to read when it's dark out. Called police to have them check if this was a scam - the local police department said "We are well aware of the questionable practice of booting trucks and forcing a large payment. We receive 10 to 20 calls per week regarding their business mode of charging a large fine for no apparent legitimate reason. The department does not condone their practices - and however sketchy it may be - it is not violating the law as written. I can only suggest you not go to that property." What it is, is pretty simple: Someone figured out they can take in cash by preying on truckdrivers. You pull into the lot - it's dark, you won't see a pay only sign, you park and a few minutes later you're paying $575 into a parking scam. FYI - it's $3.00 per night"
