"It is an amazing experience to kayak down a river inside New York City. The Bronx River Alliance has done a phenomenal job cleaning it up and helping wildlife and fish to return. While there are plenty of places that still remind you that you are in the nation's most densely populated city---especially these days the road sounds of nearby streets and highways---there are stretches of the river, especially in the botanical garden that are beautiful and fairly quiet. If you do paddle the river, especially if you are in a folding boat, make sure the water is up."
