Coordinated Children's Services

Coordinated Children's Services is a vital institution located at 1081 Development Court in Kingston, New York. This specialized treatment unit, funded by the Ulster County Department of Social Services, provides intensive support to high-risk youth and families in need. The services offered aim to enhance parenting skills, address mental health issues, reduce harmful behaviors, and strengthen family units. Mental health services, including psychiatry and psychological testing, are provided free of charge with a focus on preserving families whenever possible.

The NEXIS program, short for "Neighborhoods Evolving by Connecting Individuals to Supports," was developed in 2004 as a family and community-based intervention model for children and families dealing with traumatic events. A team of a therapist and caseworker work together to support families in making necessary environmental changes to help children cope with stress in healthier ways.

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is another intensive program offered by Coordinated Children's Services for chronically acting-out youth. This evidence-based model focuses on addressing environmental factors that impact a youth's behavior, with therapists available multiple times a week to assist families in managing and preventing crises. MST has shown effectiveness in improving the quality of life for adolescents aged 12-17.
