"Herring Cole Hall is one of the jewels among the historic buildings of the St. Lawrence campus. The Herring library was built in 1869 and the Cole reading room was added in 1902. The resulting T-shaped floor plan along with the the rose window on top are remeniscent of a chapel. Perhaps this was intended to symbolyse the "sacred" aspect of books and knowledge."
