About the Business

Free to Thrift

Free to Thrift is a unique thrift store located at 1050 Morton Boulevard in Kingston, New York, United States. Our mission is to elevate our community by creating opportunities for neighbors to share what's good with each other. We believe in sharecycling, or wecycle, where items that come through our store are passed on to others rather than being sent to a donation bin or landfill. By keeping resources circulating, we are preserving the value of the labor, sacrifice, and commitment that went into creating these items.

At Free to Thrift, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome and valued. We ensure that our staff are paid a living wage and work in humane conditions. Additionally, we donate a minimum of 10% of our gross sales to local organizations, charities, families, or individuals in need. This is our way of showing our community that they are seen, valued, and supported.

Through our efforts in community funding and sharecycling, we aim to build a new conceptual model of what thrift stores are all about. We believe in the importance of sustainable use and consumption, and we invite you to join us in our mission of sharing what's good. Visit Free to Thrift today and be a part of the movement towards a more sustainable and supportive community.

"I love this Thrift Store. There is always discounts on clothing and a great selection off non clothing items. Not very big but I still could spend a good hour there. The owner is so nice and I always have a delightful small chat about what I bought, and I always end up finding something unique like a novelty/joke can of Armadillo milk Even if I don’t end up getting anything I never leave unhappy. A favorite spot for my Girlfriend and I"

"This is my FAVORITE thrift store. Welcoming staff, great merchandise, excellent music playing. I almost always find vintage treasures worth paying “full” price for. It is also fun to search through the colored tags finding great discounts. It is possible to check out with a bag full of great items and not pay a penny. The owner is encouraging and doing great work in our community. This is an amazing business model that benefits so many people in so many different ways."
