Super 8 by Wyndham Monroe 350 Venus Street, Monroe, NC 28112

"I'll start this review by saying that I generally have low expectations when it comes to most accommodations (having spent 8 years in the Marine Corps)... However, my stay at the Super 8 in Monroe has me appalled. Since I was traveling down to Wingate University for the weekend, I decided to try and save some money and stay at the Super 8. At almost $100 a night, I received: sticky and uneven floors, dilapidated furniture, holes in the ceiling, and behind cabinets, stains on supposedly "clean" towels and sheets, signs of bed buds, a non smoking room that still smelled of smoke, doors with broken locks, peeling and chipped paint everywhere, dirt and what looked like ashes in bedside table drawers, unexplained stains in the bathtub, lamps without lampshades, outlets falling out of the wall, rusty lamp charging stations, duct tape holding things together, bugs crawling out of holes in the tiles, a C sanitation score (yes, you read that right .... They scored a 75) questionable neighbors, and a restless nights sleep. Now, I know that I didn't check in at the Hampton.. but this is absolutely unacceptable. I went to the front desk, and got a new room after seeing my first one, and they gave a new one, however, the same problems existed even if ever so slightly better. This place seems less like a friendly motel for travelers on a budget, and more like a place that you hear about on channel 9 news at night. Unless you have absolutely no where else to stay, please consider driving north on 74 a few miles for some much nicer accomodations. I know that I definitely will next time."

"The place has been remodeled recently so inside the rooms look nothing like the outside. The cleanliness of the room shocked me, it was spotless including the bathtubs!! I took a bubble bath because it was that clean. The staff was all around great and very nice."

"They triple charged me and others for our rooms on several different occasions, totaling 1,117$. They placed 2 new people at the front to stifle those of us who were just victimized, and wouldn’t renew our rooms to get us out of their hair. Beware."

"This is the filthiest, most run-down, noisiest motel I've ever stayed in. The floors, walls, and ceilings are filthy, moldy, and in disrepair. The shower is unusable. The entire landscaping is overgrown and strewn with garbage. There are people drinking and revelling, yelling and screaming throughout the night. It is like spending the night in the slums. We had booked for 4 days, but the place was so filthy and stunk so bad, that we checked out the next morning. They only gave us half of our refund. Also, the bathroom has black mold and holes in the walls. Don't even go near this place! It is what is commonly known as a "fleabag hotel"."
