"My daughter has tried a half-dozen art programs in New York City in the past 10 years and Ashcan is the best one by far. The other programs had large and impersonal classes and often spent more time taking students on field trips to museums than on teaching them art skills. While that was fine when my daughter was younger, she wanted more instruction and studio time as she got more serious about her art. Ashcan helped her to develop skills, experiment with mediums, and collaborate with teachers and other students. It has become her second home this past year while she has been working on her college portfolio. "Coming from a non-art background I went to Ashcan to get help with my portfolio. It was great working around other people with the same goals and with teachers that are knowledgable and passionate, and it was really helpful to have Mr. Kim there for advice and to always keep me on track with deadlines. After studying there 6 days a week for 8 months I was able to get into all the schools I applied to with very generous scholarships, including an MFA program with a fellowship offer.
