Harlan County School Board

"I wrote a review about this school about 3 months back detailing what they let go on here, and about their way of handling threats made towards the school or schools... and here we go again they did the same thing as before just worse this time. If I could give a review about this school with less than one star I would. Last time it was a threat the day after the tragic death of a beloved fellow student and football player for our school, at least that time they put us in a "lock-in" of sorts, even though they and I quote "found no credible threat to the school," but today a juvenile former student of one of our schools was arrested and charged with 2nd degree terroristic threatening, but our parents were not notified that there was a threat preceding the arrest, and the school was on regular schedule, no "lock-in" or "lockdown" in any of the schools as I know of so far, even the school in the area where the threat was circulating was on regular schedule. It is ridiculous the was our school handles information, especially information parents should know other than that of sports or cancelations. Honestly at this point I think all we mean to this school system is the $200+ dollars they get a day per student that is there the whole day, and that disgusts and saddens me, I wish our school handled things better, when parents need to know about something please let them know in a timely manner, it is worrisome for parents with children to find out after everything is fixed that a problem was present in the first place, just please let parents know what is going on."

"The school system is not doing its job to protect us students. Today there was a threat against the lives of an entire school full of people, the entire school system pretended it wasn’t going on, never gave parents any more information than to lie to them and say “everything is fine and under control, that is not happening, nothing is happening at harlan county high school” parents were told that the school was safe and was under a “lockdown” but students were on regular schedule, and were told to go to there classes as normal, even though, credible or not, there had been a threat made against the lives of student and staff members of harlan county high school, they do not care about anything other than making that 20 dollars per student present that day, and if that means that those students that are there might be hurt of even killed, this school system, apparently, sees that as a fair sacrifice. Harlan county public schools is ignorant to the grieving students that were already hurt and were actively trying to voice that they were scared that their lives and the lives of their loved ones may have been in danger. All they care about is money!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is pathetic to put students in that kind of danger!!!!!!"
