"Very informative actors showing how they made things from silver back in colonial times. I was hoping to buy a silver coin from here, but they only make like spoons and trinkets to sell. Totally worth a visit to learn the history."
"This is a great place to visit. The master silversmith was very informative, knowledgeable and patient with numerous questions we and others had. He took the time to teach people about the art of silversmithing, showing various tools and methods used. No political rants. Unfortunately the visit was soured by first person we encountered when we came in was a female journeymen who was super woke, spewing unnecessary thinly veiled anti-American micro-aggressions. Her targets? George Washington, revolutionary army officers, the wealthy, white men—she was a white female lol. Ironically if she had spoken like this in the period it’s likely that she would have been punished by her peers. Sadly, this really broke the fourth wall and spirit of Colonial Williamsburg. This is not the place for a left wing activist who does not have any business being in what should be a politically neutral, public facing space."
"The silversmith was fascinating. When my husband and I went, we could see an artisan in action. Unfortunately, when we returned with our children, there was much less activity. Upon walking in the shop, there is a display case kust inside the door of original silver wares. The rest of the store is impressively lined with newer pieces, all crafted more recently, on site."
"A great historic stop in the Colonial Williamsburg Historic area, right on Duke of Gloucester street. The silversmith we spoke with was a repository of knowledge of the craft and its history. So many fantastic items that were hammered right on premises. The coffee pot from the 1972 Colonial Williamsburg educational movie is still on display there, and still looks beautiful, like it hasn't aged at all. Definitely worth a stop while walking Duke of Gloucester street."
"Overall, Colonial Williamsburg is a treasure Just a fantastic way to demonstrate a living glimpse of American history without the headlice and dysentery. My only wish would be more demonstration of what the craftsman actually did to ply their craft. Maybe itnwas an off day but seeing these trades and skills.at work would be a real joy."
