About the Business

Harrison Opera House

Located at 160 West Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk, Virginia, the Harrison Opera House is a historic venue that was once a World War II USO theater. Renovated in 1993, the opera house boasts 1,632 seats and a luxurious ambiance, complete with glittering chandeliers, sweeping staircases, and bistro tables where guests can enjoy champagne and bask in the glamour.

The interior of the opera house features a three-story grand lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows, a cantilevered balcony lobby, and excellent acoustics. Box seating on the mezzanine and balcony levels further enhance the theater's opulent interior.

The Virginia Opera, founded in 1974 by Edythe C. Harrison, serves as the resident company of the Harrison Opera House, producing four annual productions. In 1994, the Virginia General Assembly named Virginia Opera the Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia in recognition of its contributions to the state and the world of opera.

In addition to the Virginia Opera, the Harrison Opera House also hosts performances by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, providing a diverse range of musical experiences for audiences to enjoy.

"We enjoyed an excellent concert performed by Richard Elliott and Rick Braun at this venue. This was an amazing evening with an active audience enjoying jazz."

"It is a beautiful venue inside and out. I sat very high in the upper balcony but could see quite well. The show was a comedienne, so I didn't get the full effect of the acoustics. I will definitely find another show to see there."

"Went to see comedian Rob Schneider and sat in the upper left balcony. Rob was hilarious and we were happy with our seats and the view of the stage from that vantage point. Overall a great experience!"

"This is one of my favorite concert venues! It’s large enough to enjoy a “big” concert experience, yet small enough to feel intimate and more engaged. The staff is friendly, and we haven’t had a bad seat yet! They offer concessions, and have on-site parking for a fee. It really is a beautiful, ideal concert venue."

"I’m confused why this place has good reviews. Like I am happy Hampton roads has a production theater, but serious upgrades are needed. The worst is that the theater gets super stuffy. There is literally no air flow. Drinks are $10-12 for a beer. Seats are super old and feel like they are full of dust. Chair/seat markings and numbers are super hard to see and sometimes missing. This causes staff running around ruining the show. Let’s not forget every show that comes here is super over priced as well. Expect to pay $60 per ticket for bad seats. I don’t think I’ll be back unless I get free tickets. And fyi parking is not bad. There is street parking for free all around."
