"Not much to see that was of interest. It use to be full of things of interest some years ago but it seems is half empty. Not sure what they can do about the strong musty odor. It's an old historic home or bldg with original floors & what seems to be very old shelving etc which produce the smell but it has character & could be quite the place to see in McDowell like it use to be. I hope they have plans to restore some of it & fill it with so many things of interest to a customer that likes visiting that part of the mountains & small towns. Just my suggestion because I always stop there when I bring people to Monterey to see the leaves or just enjoy a beautiful ride."
"I have only been to the Country Store during the annual Maple Syrup Festival. I remember being convinced by the clerk to not buy 2 but 12 donuts, because "why wouldn't you?!" Never having done drugs, I can only imagine that the high and the desperate need for one more hit was someone like my experience after eating one donut ... quickly followed by two more on the way to the car. That's right, three donuts within 10 minutes of the purchase... It might have been 12 if the wife hadn't taken the box off me. I live over 20 hr drive from the Store but every year I seriously consider driving there for the Festival and staying the weekend, just for the donuts ... because why wouldn't you?!"
"A group of 21 Corvettes with the Colonial Corvette Club were traveling together and made a stop at this great find. There are so many items in the country store that you will always find something to take home. If you love maple syrup, home-made jams, scented soaps, handcrafted items, and much more. So many antiques to enjoy as well. Thank you to Glenn for allowing our Group to stop and enjoy the Sugar Tree Country Store."
"Were on a Motorcycle ride down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway and had heard about this place when planning our trip. So, we planned a detour into our trip to check it out. Best move we made, this place was awesome. Very friendly and informative. Great Maple Syrup and spaghetti sauce. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a great experience."
