The Good Sport

"Rating: 3.5 on UVA game night. Solid 4 rating other times. I've been here three times. The food is great pub food, with a fairly good variety. However, if you go on a game night, they are understaffed, and the service is not great. If you must go on UVA game night, make a reservation for 5:15 p.m. or earlier; 5 p.m. is better. If your reservation is at 5:30 p.m., you will miss the tip-off. As an example, we were seated promptly at 5:30 p.m. (we showed up at 5:15 p.m.). The table was ready, but they didn't want to seat us because of the busyness of the place. There was no water and no one to check on us until we flagged someone down at 5:55 p.m. Food didn't show up until 6:25 p.m. Lesson learned. I would recommend this place, just not on a game night unless you get the 5pm seating. They are quite busy."

"Decide to try out The Good sport, instead of stepping out. Darmel seated us immediately and was cordial and made sure we were well.He would check to see if we were OK or if we needed anything throughout the evening. Which was pleasant and refreshing. Our waiter, Jason, provided us with great service and was knowledgeable about the menu. Per his suggestion, I went with the fried chicken sandwich. Let's just say that his recommendations was on point. If you are in town and want to be in a great setting and like good service and food, I recommend you try The Good sport at Kimpton Charlottesville."

"Decided to check out the food the Good Sport, in our hotel. I'm so glad we stopped in for lunch. The food was delicious. I had the fried chicken sandwich with kimchi. It was perfectly fried succulent thigh meat, with the added touch of kimchi. I had a side of truffle fries. The fries were crispy and delicious. The cheese curds and fried pickles were also great. The cob salad was also very good. Definitely give them a try. The service was great too."

"The place had just opened, so they were a little understaffed, but we were low maintenance. Maybe my expectations were low, maybe it was the jet lag, maybe the wine, but my god the food was on point. Small menu, but it’s early. Side note: Hotel management is asleep at the wheel. They’re letting hotel guests walk through this restaurant, as an entrance to the building. Happened at least a dozen times while we ate. Props to the restaurant manager. Get the guy a hostess."

"Upscale pub with all the right aesthetics right in the heart of North Grounds. Great proximity to walk to JPJ before/after a game. The sliders were great, even the veggie version was enjoyed by the carnivores. Looking forward to enjoying the terrace this summer."
