"I began my guitar journey at Columbia Guitar Studio as an adult with no musical experience beyond appreciation. That was well over a decade ago. I never thought I'd be where I am today in my playing. I doubt very much that I would have continued this far with another teacher. David has a way of tailoring teaching methods he's perfected over decades to each student's strengths and weaknesses. Classically trained, he has a tremendous facility across genres. I've learned folk, bluegrass, blues, ragtime, jazz and bossa nova pieces, all presented with the same appreciation for their beauty and complexity that I'm sure he brings to all the music he teaches. Furthermore, you will learn to read music at CGS. That is by no means standard for guitar instruction and vital, particularly for younger learners embarking on a lifetime of learning."

"By far the best guitar teacher in the area. My daughter has been working with him for six years on guitar and banjo. His recitals include a diverse range of students from beginners of all ages to experts that you’d expect to see playing professionally. David is a thoughtful instructor who adapts to the style his students want to learn."

"FINALLY! I found a teacher that is not only a magnificent classical guitar artist - but one that know how to teach. For years, from California to Maryland and stops in between, I have been unsuccessful in learning how to play. It takes someone special like David - who takes time to understand his student's needs and desires - and then meld those with great pedagogy and his unique personality. I now understand how to practice (it's not obvious!) and how to approach skill development rather than just being given a sheet of chords and strumming exercises. I am grateful for his patience and skill and his sense of humor and story."

"No better teacher for guitar instruction in the mid-Atlantic region. I’ve been taking lessons for over a decade and could not be where I am today without David’s mentorship."
