Raccoon Creek State Park, located at 3000 Pennsylvania 18, Hookstown, Pennsylvania, is one of the largest and most visited state parks in Pennsylvania. Originally operated by the National Park Service in the 1930s, the park spans 7,572 acres and features the picturesque 101-acre Raccoon Lake. The park offers a mix of modern and rustic facilities, including group camps from the CCC era.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, and wildlife watching. The park is home to the Wildflower Reserve, which boasts over 700 species of plants, making it one of the most diverse stands of wildflowers in western Pennsylvania.
Raccoon Creek State Park also offers educational programs for visitors of all ages, including curriculum-based programs for schools and youth groups. The park aims to promote appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of natural and cultural resources through hands-on activities and guided walks.
For those driving electric vehicles, a two-plug charging station is available for public use in the park office parking lot. Additionally, directions to the nearest hospital, Heritage Valley Beaver, are posted on bulletin boards and at the park office.
Due to COVID-19 mitigation measures, guests are required to cancel their visit if they are unable to comply with the regulations. The park encourages all visitors to follow guidelines to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Raccoon Creek State Park is easily accessible from US 30 and PA 18, which passes directly through the park. For more information or to make reservations, visitors can call toll-free at 888-PA-PARKS or visit the park's website.

"What an absolute paradise in the woods. Very well taken care of parks and amenities. Tons of camping and cabin options to boot and plenty of trails to get lost and enjoy the silence."
"Took a 20 mile drive Sunday morning. Ended up at raccoon state park to take some pictures. It was a beautiful day just after the rain. There's a boat launch, there's a beach. There's trails, there's hiking. And there's a website to check it all out on a telephone number. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Is park hours sun up to sunset."
"I absolutely love camping at Raccoon creek! it’s clean, friendly and has all the amenities you would need. The bathhouses have warm showers, a dishes sink & there’s plenty of spots! The spaces are spread out a good amount to allow for privacy and most of the spots have shade. For the most part they are level but if that’s super important I’d have levelers. it’s very tranquil and beautiful here. We stay in loop A which has the best Verizon cell coverage."
"Very pleasant and convenient State Park near Pittsburgh. Miles and miles of wooded hiking trails, a campground and a big lake with boat rentals and a family friendly swimming beach with restrooms and concessions. No lifeguards but the swimming area is roped off, the bottom is mostly sandy and doesn't get much more than 5' deep inside the ropes. Shady spots for blankets and picnic tables. OK to grill. No dogs on the beach or in the water."
