"It was clean and safe for my stay. I read some bad reviews and realized they're all from many years ago, so I thought I'd try it for my stay in Pittsburgh. I inspected everything after arriving, and there was no grime, sticky floors, bad smells, trash etc. There was a chemical smell in the hallway which seems like it's to cover up cigarettes, but it didn't leak into the room. Everything works (bathroom , microwave, fridge, phone, outlets, iron, AC, wifi) except the TV, which sort of works, but the reception is worse than rabbit ears in the 90s. This is certainly caused by my room being located in the basement. This totally killed the aesthetic because there is no window, and zero artificial light. The cheap LED light doesn't even have a cover, so it's very harsh, and I turned it off and just used the lamps. There were 3 lamps in one small room which suggests the owners realized how awful the lighting is, but at least it's creative. And there's some really nice artwork above the bed. Staff: 5 stars. Friendly and helped me with two different issues that they didn't cause and basically didn't need to help with, but they went above and beyond, twice. Despite it being a very busy night in Pittsburgh, I never heard any other guests after midnight. There's one other issue that could be a deal breaker for some. This hotel is horribly inaccessible for cyclists or pedestrians. There is technically a bus stop out front, but good luck getting onto a city bus from downtown, you'll need it. There is not a sidewalk, period. The speed limit is 50mph with no shoulder. And driving here is a labyrinth of winding bridges and overpasses with poor signs and congested traffic. I miraculously got an Uber to and from Hines Field for a Steelers game for a total of $35 for two rides, plus tips. Although if you aren't willing to walk downtown afterwards and hang out at a bar until prices go down it would've been more like $120 which completely destroys the point of a budget hotel. Light rail takes you nowhere near this place. During the day the location is near some really nice Mexican food, and if you leave for Hines Field or downtown when it isn't rush hour, you're about 10 mins from them by car. I would probably not stay here again because of the location, but if you need a cheap room and you have a car, it's pretty good."
"This is a copy of the e-mail we sent to the hotel's manager. We waited a month hoping that we'd get a response, but at this point we've given them the benefit of the doubt (maybe they're backed up with other things they have to handle) and haven't gotten a response. So...oh well. Add it to the list. "My wife and I were booked to stay at the Days Inn July 14th-15th. I was hoping to discuss the reservation, but wanted to wait before sending the email to make sure it had the right temperament. Sending it in the immediate wake of the 14th would not have been in anyone's interest. When we arrived on the 14th, we spoke with the front desk and we were given a choice between "two rooms upstairs or one in the basement." Unsure of what this choice of words meant, we opted for upstairs. We were given 2 key cards, and we passed through the hallway door, which locked behind us, to our room. Upon reaching our room, we found neither key worked. Attempting to return downstairs, we found the locked door also did not work with our key, meaning we had to navigate our way around to get back to the front desk. We did then receive working keys, and we entered the room and set our things down. Entering the bathroom, my wife noticed a leak in the tub. On further inspection, the leak was from both the faucet and the handle. When we turned on the shower, nothing happened. The leak persisted, but no water came out of the shower. We promptly went downstairs and informed the desk we couldn't use the room. At 5:41, we were reassigned to room 100. We opened the door to room 100 and set our things down. Upon entering, however, it was clear the room had an overpowering scent of cigarette smoke. I called the front desk to ask about my reservation, which - as indicated in the attached picture - was for a non-smoking room. I was assured this was a non-smoking room. Given that clearly there was smoking at some point recently, I asked that a note be made that the room smelled like smoke so that we would not incur the fine for smoking. But there was no offer to move us to a room that did not have the overpowering stench of cigarettes. My wife went to use the bathroom, and discovered a number of hairs on the sink. When I went to use a towel, several more long hairs were in the towels. The bathtub also had several spiders (live and dead) in it. It's entirely possible the towels were clean, and certainly bugs can be anywhere, but I hope you can understand that this in total didn't give us a great deal of confidence that the room had been cleaned, at least not thoroughly. Additionally, the shower in this room was leaking, though it worked once you turned it on, a change from 218. In the 10 minutes or so that we were in the room, the air conditioner also started and stopped 4 times. It may be that it was a humid day, but given the other issues, we did not have confidence that the AC was going to work consistently. We moved our bags to the car and called friends in the city. It took about ten minutes to get ahold of them. As soon as they confirmed that we could stay with them, we canceled our reservation. That was at 6:01. If you have camera footage, you can confirm that. However, because we had taken longer than 15 minutes we were told we couldn't get a refund. I was hoping that appealing to you directly could rectify that. Clearly, this was not a good experience, and as soon as we could confirm with our friends that we had other lodging (which took 20 minutes, not 15), we approached the desk for cancelation. We didn't stay for an hour, spend the night, etc. That would be like eating a hamburger, saying it was no good, then asking for your money back despite getting the meal. In this case, we vacated as soon as possible. We're hopeful that you'll be willing to grant us a refund.""
"Crumbs on floor, floor was sticky, shower rod was broken, and there was chewed up gum on the night stand. Told the front desk person that and he offered to move to another room. The next room had multiple other problems with it and I refused to stay in that room either. Told front desk person about it and his response was "well we're human, we make mistakes". No you're running and representing a business. If you are looking at this hotel, just keep moving on to something else. Worst hotel experience ever. Zero out of five stars. The Comfort Inn next door is so much better and more professional. Maybe they can train people at the Days Inn how to be professional and clean."
"I didn't really like the location. It's on a highway, with no stores close by except Eat n Park. It looked more like a motel. The room was spacious but with outdated furniture and all. But the good thing was, there wasn't alot of people in the pool area. We mainly had it to ourselves!!"
"Probably the worst hotel I've ever been to. The staff are all friendly and trying to do their best, but the location itself is just horrible, especially for the price. The building, rooms and indoor pool are in poor condition and missing some much needed renovations. Our room in particular seemed to have been affected by some kind of water damage in the past, as apparent by the damaged ceiling tiling, which should have been replaced ages ago. A lot of the furniture also seemed heavily used and damaged already. The room also had a weird smell to it and wasn't cleaned properly, as there was still some kind of sticky substance on the table and stains in the microwave. After asking to get the table cleaned, the staff waited over half an hour before calling us to ask whether or not we still wanted them to come clean it, before taking another 15 minutes to actually get to our room. Weirdly enough, our windows were facing into a Semi-Open hallway with no way to open them, so there was no way to let fresh air in during the night without using the air conditioner. Apart from these things, the rest of the service just barely managed to scratch the bare minimum. Breakfast was only provided pre-packaged and to-go and the wifi didn't work inside of our hotel room but only outside. The location is next to a busy road and not much to write home about either, apart from it being fairly close to the city center."
