About the Business

Pupatella

Pupatella is a cozy and authentic Neapolitan pizza restaurant located at 350 East Market Street in Leesburg, Virginia. Our pizza is made just like it has been for over 150 years in Naples, with each pizza maker going through extensive training to become a certified Neapolitan Pizza maker (Pizzaiolo). Our pizzas are baked in a traditional wood-fire pizza oven that reaches over 900 degrees, imported from Naples, Italy. The name "Pupatella" is a term of endearment in Naples, meaning "little doll", and was chosen to honor Enzo's beloved grandmother. Come experience the taste of Naples right in your neighborhood at Pupatella.

"They almost got the crust right. It's a little floppy for my taste but they are top 8 for pizza in Nova in my opinion. Servers are great and they hustle. The location looks like an old pizza hut but it's nice for what it is."

"This location is always excellent. Started with the Frittura sampler. One sausage arancino, one eggplant arancino, one panzarotto and two fried mozzarella balls with marinara (only one in photo because my hungry toddler has the fastest hands in the East). Peak aroncini. The method is flawless. Other than changing the flavors of the ingredients to suit personal tastes, you couldn't get better. The marinara is a little oversweet for my tastes, but it's great for what it is. The Diavola was our red sauce choice. Spicy salami, fresh mozzarella, basil. The edges of the salami were delightfully crisped and the flavor was great. Really good quality ingredients. White Sauce: We got an Onion Tart the first time we came here and I crave it all the time. Still phenomenal. Italian cream sauce, caramelized onions, nutmeg, Gruyère, bacon. No one is doing caramelized onions this well locally below $50/head dishes. I'm an onion obsessive and I'm tellin' ya folks, they're doing it right. This is my #1 on the whole menu. Nothing soupy about either pizza. We got a delicate crust kissed with fire. White sauce was better than red sauce, but both are batting 90th percentile for NoVa pizza joints easily. I saw some hype about the paninos so I grabbed the meatball to try. I try to always grab one experimental dish when I'm out just to see if there's any new favorites to be had. Honestly, this wasn't my new favorite. The bread was great and had a very satisfying outer crust. It was a very simple construction, but that let the ingredients come through. I think I prefer a meatball with more spice. Mozzarella quality was great and it couldn't have been better prepared overall. If you're someone who prefers variations on a more "plain" flavor profile, I think you're going to love this. Not for me, but I'd heartily recommend it to the right person. How much is two pizzas, a full sized meatball panino, and the most expensive Appetizer on the menu? $64.34. That's it. If people have lost track, large pizzas at most fast food pizza places are pushing $20. This is beyond fair for the price. And let me throw in a shout-out for the consistently good service, also. They're always so kind to us when we have our 2-yeard-old in tow."

"The food is ok, one would expect an 11” pizza that costs $20 wouldn’t be burnt. It was our first time there and it was a bit disappointing, Pizza Hut or Domino’s has never given us a burnt pizza before. The bruschetta was really good, but everything is just too over priced. I had pizza like this in DC for half the price."

"Restaurant is welcoming, pretty lighting, & clean. Unfortunately, the food isn’t as great as the setting. The pizza tastes weird, like gummy- as if the pizza isn’t cooked all the way. The slices are very thin and greasy. Waitress was slow but the food came in a timely manner. I’d say try it once, but I was really disappointed. I’d rather have 7-11 pizza than this, for a fraction of the price."

"Good pizza. Brick oven style so expect thin crust under the pizza with w light puffy crust that reminds me a bit like fresh pita for flavor. The overall menu is a bit upscale...ingredients are above average in choices and flavor...as are the prices. The salads are likewise upscale with the house salad a descent sized bowl of arugula with tomatoes and a generous helping of dices kalamata olives and a balsamic dressing. The atmosphere is rather mixed. It's a nice sit down atmosphere but the concrete floors make me feel I'm eating at Mod Pizza, not an establishment that feels like the trendy place I'm paying for for a higher end pizza experience."
