"No customer service, snappy attitudes. Was just wondering why when you have to pay in full, I received a bill. The woman's explanation was sparse, rude and then she rushed me off the phone when I tried to ask questions for better understanding. Wow. Horrible company. The bill was because I hadn't gotten a propane delivery in 2023- I have a 20 gallon tank for cooking only.. So you mean to tell me if I don't use up all of my propane within a year I'm penalized?! So SOO bogus! The charge is more than the price of 1/2 of a full tank!"

"The customer service at this company was once excellent but it has gotten worse and worse. Seems they never recovered from a huge backlog of service calls in the pandemic. And now to schedule a simple service call takes at least two calls - if you're lucky. People answering phone are completely clueless. see Yelp reviews for more outrageous instances of the total breakdown in communications -- here is my all time favorite, written by yours truly: This company's service department communications are ABYSMAL. when you call with an emergency, there is at least a ten minute delay, and then, the first questions asked by the human who eventually comes on line is the following: "is this an Emergency?" (Yes) "It cannot wait until normal business hours?" (no) "There may be a fee for service outside normal business hours, do you accept the charge?" (steam coming out of ears, since I'm paying full freight for a service contract that covers everything supposedly!!) YES! Then, after taking down all of the information including my account number (which should link to said information...) they ask me about what kind of gas problem I'm having. I replied "this is an oil burner that requires emergency service". Then I have to listen to their idiotic script "Thank you for using the Superior Family of brands ...etc etc.". Ever since the Canadian company Superior gas took over this business, which WAS once upon a time a fantastically well run local family business, it has been an epic disaster. It's a company that seemingly knows all about gas/propane etc. but it is way in over its head when it comes to servicing boilers. "Very unfriendly customer service rep. I called them 8/25/23 and was told that they will call me back in 24/48 hours to set up propane delivery. I had to call them again because three weeks have gone by. I spoke with a Laura who was very unfriendly and not easy to talk to. She pretty much told me that everything that was said to me during my previous Aug call was not true. Downeast Energy charges you for everything. And I mean every little thing. I asked to speak to a supervisor and pretty much was not allowed to do so. Downeast Energy is out to make a Buck and they will find a way to get as much money as they can from you. Crooks and unfriendly"

"They are an OK oil company if you don't mind paying 20% more than every other oil company around. Price transparency is criminally poor. For example 12/22/22 the going price was $4.099 within $0.20. Downeast price was about $5.25 but you don't know that unless you call or if on auto delivery it is in your tank. Aggravating at best. I have been a customer for 20 years but paying $1600 more a year isn't really worth it. The service side has been fine."
