About the Business

The Green Ladle

The Green Ladle, located in Lewiston, Maine, is a culinary arts program at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center. With passionate educators who have over 60 years of combined experience in the field, students from six area high schools are accepted into the two-year program. The hands-on experience combines academics with career skills, allowing students to cater approximately 250 events each school year, serving up to 2,000 guests at some events. The students handle all aspects of the operation, from planning the menu to executing it. The program offers in-house catering, pick-up catering, food truck services, take-out meal service, and student-run restaurant days. The Community Serving Community Food Truck is the newest addition to the program, available for private events. The menu changes weekly and offers various items such as soups, chowders, breads, salad dressings, and desserts. The student-run restaurant operates from January to April, serving lunch to about 150 people each day. The program also offers ServSafe food safety training and certification classes. Additionally, the Green Ladle students and community volunteers participate in events such as the annual Dempsey Challenge. Graduates of the program have gone on to achieve success in the culinary industry, such as Chef Rachel Lagloahec and Chef Zachary Pratt. The program has been life-changing for many students, providing education and support for young adults pursuing a career in the culinary arts.

"My husband won a raffle for a 10 person Thanksgiving Feast. He picked up the food on Wednesday before the holiday. It was an amazing feast that all of us (10) friends enjoyed immensely. Plenty of food for everyone. Thank you so very much for this grand opportunity to enjoy the foods prepared by your culinary students and staff. Well done!"

"It was a great little place to celebrate an end of the season sports season. Very spacious and clean. The parking was ample. And it was easily located. The students in the culinary program were very polite and the food was well presented. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a venue with a tight budget"

"A friend and I had lunch at the Green Ladle on Friday, March 8th. I was amazed at the lovely facility, and the fantastic menu! The food was perfectly cooked, served by charming, enthusiastic young people, dressed appropriately, I have nothing to say except that I will lunch there again, many times! It is WONDERFUL to see young people so happy and doing things so well! Thanks Joan Putnam"
