Gerard P. Barry, MD is the largest practice dedicated to medical and surgical eye care for children in the Capital Region of Albany, New York. Located at 920 Albany Shaker Road, Latham, our team of four pediatric ophthalmologists, one pediatric optometrist, one orthoptist, and an optician are committed to providing high-quality care for children of all ages. Our practice also serves adults with strabismus and double vision.
Our physician-owned and operated practice offers evaluation and treatment for a wide range of eye diseases affecting children. We are located just 1.5 miles from the Albany International Airport, making it convenient for families to access our services. Our optical shop is designed specifically for children, with a focus on providing high-quality frames and lenses. We offer a warranty package that covers replacement of damaged frames and lenses up to three times in one year.
New patients are welcome at Gerard P. Barry, MD, and we encourage them to fill out required forms before their visit. Masks are optional for patients and family members who are symptom-free and have had no exposure within the past 10 days. If a patient tests positive for COVID-19, they must wait five days from the positive test or onset of symptoms before visiting the office, and wear a mask from day 6 to day 10. "My children have been seeing Dr. Barry since they were in the NICU and he is patient and kind. He is willing to wait ( as long as a doctor in a busy office can) for them to warm up to him, and has number of tricks up his sleeve to get their attention and to hold it. He works with very young and fragile children and sees them progress, and has such a wonderful and gentle demeanor. His office staff are quick and friendly and very efficent. The office can be crowded but things run smoothly for a pediatric eye clinic. Wonderful doctor and fantastic with children!"
