Tend Mosaic District

"This was my 3rd visit to Tend Mosaic after avoiding a dental visit for 20 years. I admit, I had a major phobia of dental offices, and had made and canceled several visits with Tend, but I had teeth that hurt and one that wiggled after an accident, and several that were hypersensitive to cold, and I realized I couldn't put it off any longer. When I went in, the folks at the reception desk, who don't wear name tags.....so I can't praise them by name, were super sweet, and kind, and assured me there was ZERO JUDGEMENT concerning the time that had lapsed between visits. They handed me the cutest bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste, and pointed me to the brushing room. Brightly colored, backwards neon the read properly when you looked in the mirror, hands free sink, soft paper towels to dry things off.....all comforting for this old lady who did NOT want to be there! And then I met my hygienist, Austin. The first thing I thought was "I'm old enough to be this boy's mother!!" The second thing I thought was "Where were hygienists like this when I was 20yo? Maybe I would have gone to the dentist more regularly!!" Austin is adorable, to say the least, and his charming smile and willingness to talk to me, first as just a person and not a patient, put me 100% at ease. We talked about family, schooling, where we'd both lived, life experiences, and how I'd come to Tend Mosaic that particular day. And no matter what I said about how much I hated dentists, was afraid of them, etc, he told me "All that matters is that you're here now, and I'm going to take care of you." And that's exactly what he did. He took 99.9% of my fear and anxiety away that very first visit. He was patient with me, encouraging, and kept telling me what an amazing job I was doing, despite the fact that I felt like I was flinching every time he came near my mouth. He took his time, stopped if he thought I needed him to, gave me water if he thought I needed it, and explained everything he was doing, step by step. He was never harsh, never pulled my head or neck roughly, and always spoke as if he had a gigantic smile on his face, which i know he did, even though he wore a mask the entire. By the end of the visit I was so comfortable that I made my first follow-up for the very next day! The next day was exactly the same, and Austin was just as amazing as he had been the day before, and he was more patient with me than I could have even hoped for when it came to numbing my mouth for the work he had to do......he took as long as I needed, and promised me he would always go at my pace. He knew how many trepidations I had, and he wanted every visit to be a positive one, and that's what they've been. Today was my third visit, and it didn't go quite as smoothly as the first one did, which had nothing to do with Austin's work......he was just working on my most sensitive teeth. As always, he was impeccable, and he was going at my pace, and warning me ahead of time if an injection was going to be particularly painful or uncomfortable, always apologizing if it was. Of course, he had nothing to apologize for, and I'd tell him as much. His response was always the same....."I don't like to see you in pain!" How often do you get a health practitioner of any kind who says things like that, or takes the time to ask about your children and their accomplishments? Well, Austin does, and his care for his patients CLEARLY goes far beyond their oral health. I can honestly say that if I hadn't gotten Austin as my hygienist that first visit, I'm not so sure I would have come back quite so eagerly. The people at the front desk are amazing, Dr. Kahn, the dentist, was sweet and wonderful, but Austin is the one who takes care of me and we have a standing appointment for six weeks from now, and then every three months after that for a year. So, if you're looking for a new dental clinic, I can tell you that Tend Mosaic is a 10/10, would recommend! Just not on Thursdays.....at least, not with Austin. Not for the next 15-20 years. Just saying."

"Hygienist was great. They offer lots of amenities that I don’t care about (TV with headphones, tinted glasses) but the app is good. Unfortunately the dentist spent 30 seconds with me and suggested unnecessary work (hygienist said teeth and gums were exemplary and I’ve never had a cavity in my approximately 40 years, dentist looked at my teeth for 30 seconds and recommended three preventative fillings which seems insanely invasive given my oral health and history). That makes the whole experience feel like a scam and that they are treating you like a mark to farm billable procedures from (suggesting a brush on fluoride varnish for all patients rather than for specific cases that they can bill extra for rather than a rinse is another example) rather than a patient. I guess not a big deal if you are aware of the practice of unnecessary procedures and decline but not a great feeling overall. Since finding a dentist is such a pain (and my state doesn’t allow dental therapists, a mid level care alternative to dentists that if your lucky enough to have access to you should visit), the hygienist was good, and because they pair you with a different dentist every time, I’ll go back and hope for a different experience (I’ll also update and apologize if I end up with my first ever cavities in the next few months) but if it’s the same scam, I’ll look elsewhere for future routine care."

Then Amy the hygienist did an exceptional job with explaining all that was going on with my mouth! She did my deep cleaning and talked to me through the whole process. The Dentist made me confident on getting my mouth where it needs to be! Will definitely return"
