"This hospital is clearly broken. I had to go to the ER last week for severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. I spent six hours on a cot crammed to the side of the aisle, where I was repeatedly bumped by people walking by. They gave me iv fluids something to ease the pain, but their diagnostic ability is zero. It took six hours to have blood tests done but the results didn’t come back. The doctor said his official medical advice is to stay, but he understand if I decided to go. He didn’t prescribe anything. I was later able to figure out what it was on my own. I have celiac, and I had unknowingly been digesting gluten for a week with some mislabeled nuts. Although I told Dr about my allergy, there was no consideration of this as a possible cause. They were scratching their heads when I left to rest which was impossible there. If it had been something serious, like a heart attack, appendicitis or sepsis, I would have died right there on the cot. No one ever came up to me to check and see how I was doing. I will not enter Queens Mount Sinai although there may be no good options here."
"Horrible place. My 91 year old diabetic aunt remained on a gurney in a hallway for 2 whole days. Despite possible heart problems that they cited, she was never provided a heart monitor. She was never seen by a cardiologist. Finally, we had to sign her out against medical advice to seek better care. Which we did. But it really seems they simply wanted to charge her insurance as much as possible . Either that or they were simply negligent. Afterall, how can THEY claim.possible heart problems but not provide a heart monitor??? Sad really, because they treated all other patients similarly. They had an attitude and just let people lay there without attention. Please avoid this place"
"My Aunt, Alicia Cerrato an 91 year old woman who has been living in Astoria New York for over 58 years who has worked all her life and now has Medicare and Medicaid and sits in a gurney in the hall ways inside the emergency room for more than 18 hours waiting to get a hospital bed as the doctors on the floor have admitted her to take additional tests for kidney failure and heart failure. Meanwhile the doctors don’t recommend that she go home because she will lose her place in line to get these tests and don’t even administer a machine so they can monitor her heart while she waits in the ER. The ER is full of sick people half her age who are in desperate need of care. My Aunt is experiencing all this sickness around her while she waits for a hospital bed. She can be better off at home where she can be more relaxed and wait for her appointment for these additional tests. The ER does not have the capacity to manage people who are very sick in Astoria not alone an 91 year woman who is diabetic and requires quality medical help. This ER is in a dire situation . It feels like we are living in a third world country with no quality to health care. This is what everyone will look forward to living in Astoria, overcrowded and broken down ER and doctors who don’t have the capacity to administer adequate care to their patients. I ask the questions, why are we paying for all these taxes for? Why don’t they have better hospitals in cities like Astoria? Please someone from the hospital reply to my questions and help my Aunt."
"My experience came by surprise. A little stomach pain turns into a 2 day stay. First day. No privacy. No extra room is available. Sleep in the emergency area ( I'm glad they found the problem), but damn ! A little privacy will go a long way. Second day. Much better. A little privacy does work. I should realize it's a really busy hospital, so thank you."
"I deeply regret to report a disheartening experience at Mount Sinai hospital, particularly the Queens location. Approximately a month and a half ago, my 26-year-old brother was admitted due to a persistent fever. Initially diagnosed with “influenza”, he was discharged. Subsequently, his condition deteriorated, marked by severe vomiting, and we sought urgent medical attention. Paramedics initially downplayed his symptoms, but upon insistence, he was admitted. During his stay, the attending doctor exhibited minimal interest in understanding the severity of my brother’s condition, hastily suggesting it was a common flu. Despite my insistence, only anti-nausea medication was prescribed. A week later, with persistent fever, constipation, and inability to urinate, we returned to the same Queens location. Despite expressing concerns, they were inclined to discharge him again. However, my Dad insisted on further examination, leading to his admission. Regrettably, his health worsened day by day, resulting in a coma. Despite our pleas for a transfer to another hospital due to their inability to diagnose or treat him effectively, our requests were met with resistance and excuses. Only when our intention to transfer became evident were we grudgingly moved to the Manhattan Mount Sinai on Madison Ave. Now, nearly a month and a half into his ordeal, my brother’s condition remains critical. The hospital’s lack of transparency and urgency in his care, coupled with dismissive remarks from nursing staff about monitoring equipment, has only exacerbated our distress. Disturbingly, we witnessed another patient’s decline, with the nurse advising against trusting vital sign monitors. Our pleas for a transfer have fallen on deaf ears, and it appears the hospital is more concerned about retaining patients than their well-being. In light of these grave concerns, I strongly caution against entrusting your loved ones to this institution. I am compelled to share this experience widely, including a forthcoming video presentation with supporting evidence. I will continue to provide updates on this matter."
