Hidden Valley Preserve, located at 198 Bee Brook Road in Washington, Connecticut, is a sprawling 940-acre park and tourist attraction offering nearly 20 miles of trails for hiking. The preserve, donated by the Van Sinderen family in 1963, features wooded hillsides, meadows, and stunning views of the River Valley from the Lookout and Pinnacle points. Visitors can explore the historic Quartz Mine, once a thriving industry in the 19th century, and admire the Thoreau Bridge, a sustainable mass timber suspension bridge designed to protect the sensitive ecological areas of the preserve. The Pinnacle, rising to an elevation of 820 feet, offers panoramic views of Washington's Historic Districts and Macricostas Preserve. Steep Rock Association, the organization managing the preserve, aims to conserve significant landscapes and enhance the community's connection to nature through outreach and education. Visitors are encouraged to help protect the preserve by respecting its natural beauty and integrity. Donations and support are welcomed to further the mission of preserving this beautiful natural space.

"This awesome hike. Didn’t get up to quartz mine. Like I wanted to. But I seen a lot of sign of it. I be coming back to this one very soon. Met a lot of nice people on the trail.. there spots near the stream to a cook out. I would love to explore this area."
"Absolutely love this location. The Henry David Thoreau hanging bridge is pretty impressive and the perfect subject for fall foliage photography. The parking area is super close to the bridge, so you don't have to hike miles to see it. The rest of the trails are pretty flat and wide, for the most part, and easy to walk and navigate. The trail markings perfectly align with the maps and are easy to follow from one trail to another. We hiked to the abandoned quartz mine and were blown away by how much quartz was still in the area. Several other footbridges and man made staircases were helpful to see both sides of the river. There were some people along the trails but it was not overcrowded (during the week). I will definitely return to this location to do more hiking, to check out the lookouts and the train tracks."
"This park is absolutely beautiful. Well maintained and marked. Great for dogs and kids. Two flat trails along the river, and plenty of steeper trails in the woods if you want more of a challenge. Close to the other Steep Rock parks."
"Square Orange and white trail around the river across the two bridges. 1.7 miles mostly flat with some excellent views of the river and falling streams. Farthest bridge has three flights of stairs from the river to trail. The yellow circle trail leading to scenic overlook starts to right of main parking lot - easily missed. Starts at a nice climb. Continuous to ridge line. This preserve is excellent for different types of walks. Dogs on leashes. Parking lot holds 30 cars. Their is a smaller lot that has its own trail head entrance. No bathrooms. No water."
