"About 2.5 years ago while living in Ossining I retained General (Jason) to replace a leaking valve cover gasket on my 2014 BMW X1 that was causing a smoking condition when driving. I personally purchased the new gasket fro a local BMW dealer. Upon completing the repair for $600.00 I complained about the continuation of the smoking condition. Jason mentioned that it is the burn off of the previously leaking valve cover. I then moved to Charleston and had another mechanic look at the problem. He mentioned that the repair was not done correctly and that the leak continued. I now have to spend another $600.00 to replace the gasket. I am reporting this to the BBB. I caution others to use another service center for service and repairs lest they get incompetent and dishonest service."

"Just saw them on EYEWITNESS News, they were driving a Jeep and the tire fell off. It damaged a sign and car, they refused to pay even blew the person off. If you are like that, then I am happy I will never use your company."

"This is to follow up on my wife's review (Cara Viggiano Starace) from last month to provide new information (2nd paragraph) To summarize- I had a bad oil leak. They charged me 1 hour or $139 for a diagnosis. They said it was the head gasket leaking. They gave me written estimate to do the work and said call when you want the work done and we'll credit back the $139. I called two weeks later and they said they were busy for two weeks and I should call back in two weeks and "maybe" they could do it then. I asked if I could make an appointment for two weeks and Naima said they don't make appointments! I protested that it didn't make sense because how would she know they would be busy for two weeks if they didn't take appointments?! At that point she said she didn't want to do business with me. I asked to have the $139 refunded and she refused. Clearly they had decided that doing a headgasket was too much trouble and would use the old stonewalling technique. If that was the case, they should have refunded me the $139. The new information is that I brought my car to another mechanic and they showed me there was nothing wrong with the head gasket and instead the oil pan needed to be replaced. That was a $700 job vs. a $2,000 job! Clearly General Auto Service did a rush job diagnosing the oil leak and probably spent 10 minutes and charged me for an hour. Had I let them do they work and had they replaced the headgasket, I would have spent $1,300 more than I needed to and still would have had a leaking oil pan. I have complained to the Westchester Dept. of Consumer proection and they have forwarded my complaint to DMV who regulates auto repair shops."

"My husband was never told up front he'd be charged $130 just for a "diagnosis." Now that they have our $130 they claim they can't even do the work for another two weeks. In addition, the receptionist is ill-equipped to answer basic questions about needed repairs, and gives a different story about when repairs can be done each time she's asked. I've never heard of an auto repair shop who'd tell customers they're "completely booked" for 2 weeks, and yet claim they won't take appointments. To charge $130 just to have a car looked at and then stonewall the client when he tries to get them to do the actual work done is dishonest business. This isn't over."
