About the Business
Welcome to Maungatapu School, located on Maungatapu Road in Tauranga, New Zealand. Our institution, Te Kura o Maungatapu, has a proud heritage and rich history dating back to 1881, when it was originally established as a native school on Te Hono Street, where the All Saints Church now stands.
As a dual medium primary school, we embrace the special character and unique nature of our land, history, and people. With approximately 500 pupils, we have 23 classrooms in the Mainstream (Auraki) where teaching and learning are based on the New Zealand Curriculum. Our dedicated teachers provide a well-rounded education that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths problem-solving skills.
In Te Pūwhāriki (Rūmaki), we have 5 akomanga (classrooms) where teaching and learning are delivered through full immersion Te Reo Māori, our indigenous language. We follow our own localized curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, ensuring our students have a strong foundation in Māori culture and language.
