About the Business

Bethlehem School

Welcome to Bethlehem School, a renowned establishment located at 66 Carmichael Road in Tauranga, New Zealand. As a contributing school, we cater to students aged 5-11 years old, from Year 0 to Year 6. Our rich history dates back to 1883 when we first opened as a Native School, and since then, we have fostered strong connections with our Māori community.

In 2008, we proudly celebrated our 125th Jubilee, marking a significant milestone in our journey. Throughout our history, Bethlehem School has primarily been a small, semi-rural institution. However, with the rapid growth of Tauranga in recent years, our school has also expanded, accommodating around 470 students in recent times, compared to the 120 students we had in 1995.

To ensure effective organization and education delivery, our school is divided into four teams or syndicates: Senior, Middle, Junior, and Rumaki. The Senior, Middle, and Junior teams follow the New Zealand Curriculum, while our Rumaki team, Te Paeroa, offers a Level 1 Māori medium immersion program based on Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, our school curriculum.

At Bethlehem School, we believe in providing a well-rounded education, nurturing not only academic excellence but also creativity and personal growth. We offer various extracurricular activities and opportunities for students to develop their talents and interests. For instance, our Senior Choir Rehearsal takes place in Room 4 at 1pm, where students can showcase their musical abilities and even create puppets using their socks.

We also encourage a love for reading through our Book Club, where students can explore a wide range of books and place orders to expand their personal libraries. The deadline for Book Club orders is 9.00am, so make sure to send your orders to the office promptly.

For students interested in basketball, we provide uniforms and mouthguards. Simply visit Kathy at the main school office after the roll to get your basketball gear.

To keep you informed, here are the important dates for our terms:

- Term 1: Wednesday 1st February – Thursday 6th April

- Term 3: Monday 17th July – Friday 22nd September

- Term 4: Monday 9th October – Friday 15th December

Lastly, we would like to acknowledge that the copyright for our website belongs to Bethlehem School, and it has been developed by School Websites New Zealand.

Thank you for visiting our webpage, and we look forward to welcoming you to Bethlehem School, where we strive to provide a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students to thrive.

"Warm congratulations to all the children and staff who provided wonderful entertainment this afternoon. Just one comment: when using flashing lights please give out a warning beforehand. Some of us older audience members have problems with bright lights and migraines!!!"
