AAFCANS Cafe Central Canteen

Welcome to the AAFCANS Cafe Central Canteen, located in Palmerston City, Australia. As a not-for-profit organization owned by the Army and Air Force, AAFCANS has been supporting our soldiers and airmen/airwomen since 1915.

At AAFCANS, we are constantly striving to improve our services and cater to the needs of our members. That's why we have recently designed and purpose-built a new mobile amenities vehicle, which has taken a lead role in the Lavarack Barracks mobile amenities fleet. This vehicle project showcases our commitment to innovation and ensuring that our members have access to top-notch facilities.

In line with our strategic plan, AAFCANS has embraced technology-driven service delivery. Our latest initiative, the 'AAFCANS On-Demand' app, allows members to conveniently order and have food and retail items delivered directly to them. We are currently piloting this service at RAAF Base Amberley and are excited to expand it to other Defence bases in the future.

When it comes to our cafe, we believe in providing a comfortable and inviting space for our guests. In January 2020, we fully replaced the dated Holsworthy AAFCANS Cafe interior with a modern and cozy design. The relaxed industrial style ambiance, designer lighting, and reclaimed timber features create the perfect atmosphere to enjoy our gourmet coffee, new tea range, and delicious food offerings. Guests can relax on our soft furnishings, dine at our casual home-style dining tables, or engage in friendly conversations while enjoying their quick coffee fix or a snack.

At AAFCANS, we take pride in giving back to our community. In the 2018/2019 financial year, we contributed $534,985.22 to Air Force and Army welfare through our automated retail vending program. The funds were distributed to various bases, including RAAF Base Williamtown, RAAF Base Edinburgh, and RAAF Base Darwin. We are committed to supporting our troops and ensuring their well-being.

As part of our commitment to quality, AAFCANS has partnered with Beraldo Coffee, an Australian veteran-owned coffee supplier. Beraldo Coffee, locally roasted in Melbourne, is now available across our network of coffee outlets on 26 ADF bases. We also provide ongoing barista training to our cafe team to ensure that our members receive the best coffee experience.

In addition to our food and beverage services, AAFCANS offers a range of additional amenities on base, including barbers, hairdressers, post offices, mechanical workshops, clothing retailers, dry cleaners, photographers, and banks. These services are provided by our licensed agents, allowing our members to conveniently access all their needs in one place.

When you choose AAFCANS, you are not only enjoying quality food and services, but also contributing to the welfare of your base. Our profits from the automated retail vending program are disbursed directly to Defence welfare funds, benefiting the base where the profits were generated. Any excess funds are reinvested into facility improvements and services to enhance the well-being of our Defence force and base community.
