About the Business

Welcome to Ensemble Theatre, located at 78 McDougall Street in Kirribilli, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, our mission is to provide a theatre experience for everyone that is exciting, extraordinary, and explosive.

Situated on the edge of Sydney Harbour, Ensemble Theatre is dedicated to showcasing the best of international plays, beloved classics, and new Australian works. We believe in the transformative power of theatre and strive to create performances that leave a lasting impact on our audiences.

One of our upcoming productions is "Summer of Harold" by award-winning playwright Hilary Bell. This collection of three comedic plays explores themes of adventure, obsession, and hope through the lens of everyday objects. It is a hilarious and thought-provoking experience that is not to be missed.

Another highlight of our season is "Moving On" by Debra Oswald, a deeply personal and honest exploration of the ups, downs, and in-betweens of being a writer. With the audience's help, Debra must make decisions about her future, making for a truly interactive and engaging performance.

We are also proud to present "The Memory of Water" by Shelagh Stephenson, a poignant and painfully funny comedy about conflicting memories, life, and loss. This beautiful bittersweet play is bound by sisterly love and will leave you laughing, crying, and reflecting on the complexities of family.

To end our 2023 season, we have a hilarious new comedy by Jamie Oxenbould and Mark Kilmurry called "Opening Night." This play takes a humorous look behind the scenes of amateur theatre, where luck, determination, and unbridled confidence rule the day. It's a perfect blend of bad timing, incompetence, and sweet optimism.

Looking ahead, our 2024 Season promises to be exceptional, with ten outstanding plays and one very special event. We are also accepting applications for the 2024 Ensemble Theatre Sandra Bates Director's Awards, a prestigious opportunity for aspiring directors.

As Australia's longest continuously running professional theatre company, Ensemble Theatre relies on the generous support of our community. Now, more than ever, we need your help to continue bringing exceptional theatre to Kirribilli and beyond.

Before or after the show, we invite you to visit Bayly's Bistro, our delightful restaurant located over the water in Kirribilli. Enjoy a delicious meal in a stylish and relaxed setting, making your theatre experience even more memorable.

Join us at Ensemble Theatre and immerse yourself in a world of captivating performances, unforgettable stories, and the magic of live theatre.

"Great intimate space that lets you feel part of the performance wherever you are sitting. The last 2 shows we have been to there have been really well acted as well. Try to get there a little ahead of time of you are driving as parking can be an issue."
