"We ended up getting a private tour since no one else booked. The Captain and George were very nice. The tour was informative. It was chilly, but they do have blankets."

"This is a must do while visiting Athlone. We boarded at Hodson Bay and spent a lovely day in Athlone and then got the last boat back to Hodson in the afternoon. Captain Mike and George were so lovely, and some of the kids got the chance to steer the boat. Their local knowledge is amazing, and a very pleasant trip there and back. I would recommend this to anyone, worth the trip."

"The crew is incredibly unfriendly and rude, even to normal questions like "Could I please get a Coca Cola" or "Where's the trash can, please?" We booked the more expensive tour to Clonmacnoise but instead of leaving at 1:30, it left a bit after 2 p.m. We had already planned in more than an hour extra for the parking garage, but since we were now at risk of getting clamped, we had to skip that part and go back by boat. They will not communicate delays let alone apologize for them. Plan in at least four hours in total and bring enough snacks and water. The trip itself was quite relaxing, on the water overlooking some fields. We asked if they had salty snacks and got a sarcastic answer, it was all old grumpy men who apparently did not enjoy their job. Disappointing for how much we paid. Recommended only if you take into account how long it really takes, get a parking ticket for a day, have enough food and water for at least 4 hours and don't mind the belligerent staff."

"I've done this trip four times over the years, and I never get tired of it, the owner and his crew do an exceptional job of looking after you, he has plenty of knowledge of the Shannon and Athlone town, there's a small shop on the boat with refreshments and a if you like your Irish coffee the crew mate makes a beautiful one, filled right to the top to warm the ole cockles. I will be back. Highly recommended"
