Co-op Food - Clarence Street - York

"Before I start, I don't want to criticize a whole shop just because of one or two individuals, that being said I feel that this needs to be said. Every time my friend or I come to this branch, the security guards -and I say gaurds because it's more than one of them- seem to follow us around the entire store. At first, I thought it was just coincidence that every isle I go down the security guard comes to, or that they were just doing their jobs but then my friend and I started talking and the same was happening to her. We feel racially profiled and uncomfortable when shopping here. This has been happening since we started shopping here - for almost a year. Some of the worse incidents include, the security guard following us to an empty isle with another Co Op worker in it. Surely, if we were going to steal, we wouldn't do it under the nose of a Co Op worker? Or, they're will be groups of people and the security will follow US, the only difference between us and the others? Our skin colour. I don't want to go around accusing anybody of racial discrimination but I see no other reason why we are being treated like this. Today was my breaking point, as we went to pay at self check out and on the security camera monitor connected to each self check out machine what do we see? The security guard making a beeline for us even though the store was relatively busy elsewhere. We believe that the only reason he only suddenly stopped and walked back the other way was because we made eye contact on the moniter. We do not appreciate being treated this way, it makes us feel incredibly uncomfortable and we will follow this up any way we can. This being said, the rest of the Co Op team have been lovely and their efforts should not be undermined by the actions of a select few."

"I am a deliveroo rider. Multiple times from this store I was reported that items are missing. For the past week , I picked up 3 orders from this shop and every time an alcoholic item was missing and reported it to them, even tho it was scanned as put in bag. Tonight I had the nerve to ask a supervisor how come alcohol is always missing from bags after they scanned it and I was accused of being abusive to the poor staff. Absolutely disgusting way of treating first the customers that they steal from and then the riders that deliver their food. Shame on you coop"

"Absolute fave market. So convenient, long opening hours with such an amazing selection of products including great range of healthy, vegan and vegetarian options. Staff always very friendly and even has beautiful fresh bread and a hot counter. Absolutely essential for the area to have a good local shop well-done co-op!"
