Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve
β OpenThe Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve, located at 3060 North Shore Road in La Pointe, Wisconsin, is dedicated to the protection and preservation of natural areas on Madeline Island. Established in 1987, it is one of the oldest and most successful land trusts in Wisconsin. The Preserve holds over 2900 acres of forest, wetlands, and trails that provide habitat for plants and wildlife and contribute to the natural beauty of the island. Visitors to the Preserve can enjoy hiking, berry-picking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing on the nature preserve lands. Deer hunting is permitted during the state's hunting season, but hunting, trapping, or snaring of other animals like bears, coyotes, and wolves is prohibited. Biking on MIWP trails and the use of motorized vehicles are also not allowed. Camping and fires are not permitted on the Preserve lands.
