The Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education, located at 144 Campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is dedicated to strengthening and celebrating American Indian education at the local, regional, and national level. Inspired by Electa Quinney, Wisconsin's first teacher and a Stockbridge Munsee Mohican, the institute focuses on connecting indigenous teaching practices from around the world. Endowed professorships in the College of Community Engagement & Professions, generously provided by the Indian Community School Inc., support the institute's mission to connect American Indian programs at UWM with the Milwaukee and Wisconsin community. The institute recognizes and honors the traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, and Menominee homeland in Milwaukee, where the rivers meet and the sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida, and Mohican nations continue to thrive.
