"First, when we seen the handmade trashy sign we did not even want to go in. The sign told us to call and gave a number. We called she said wait 5 mintues then pull down to the end of the path and wait, she will guide us the rest of the way. As we waited we thought this all seemed sketchy, we seen how run down everything was. Broken and rusty fences, old chairs, junk, just garbage laying all over the property. We were about to leave when we seen a vehicle coming down the path. She rolled down her window and started yelling at us for having our side by sides running. She had us follow her to where the horses were. She started rambling about taking her pills and writing times on her hand, not making a lot of sense. We finally got to the horses and were heart broken at what we saw.Their pen was so small and dirty, full manure, a dishoveled mess. While she talked we all were thinking about what we need to do for these poor horses! They were dirty and looked so sad. Someone need to inspect this place and the horses need to be taken away. I can't believe she is actually on the explore Washington Island sites. Something needs to be done. We will be making complaints to the chamber of commerce and to other proper authorities."
"The place is very very run down, the horses could be beautiful but they are kept in a very small and filthy pen and they appear to be under fed and very dirty. My heart broke seeing these animals in these conditions, it was our first time to Washington island and hers was our very first stop, we couldn't wait to get out of there, info in the brochure is very deceiving. Washington island is a very beautiful place and I'm surprised someone has not stepped up to fix this terrible situation!"
"If I could give a negative star I would , this place needs to be closed! Those poor horses! They live in filth and are so dirty! The entire place is a hoard mess. This needs to be shut down and animals need to be taken away!"
"We took our youngest grandchildren (3 & 5) to see the Icelantic horses. The owner lead us back to the barn area even though she was experiencing medical issues. She gave us a lengthy history of the horse breed, her farm and life on WI. The kids were able to pet and feed the 6-8 horses. The favorite part was watching the horses gallop down to another pasture. My son-in-law got beautiful photos the entire time (2hrs) we were visiting. It was difficult to contact her and meet up but worth it. I hope she continues to improve and can get it back open permanently. Tip her well (voluntarily); it’s for the horses upkeep and health. She surely loves them. We visited in October, 2022."
"My wife and I saw the add for the Icelandic Horses while visiting Washington Island. We drove past the place a couple of times and then called the phone number provided to get directions. It turned out that we were actually in front of her drive way. She explained to us that she currently was not letting people ride the horses but she was happy to show them. We stopped by her home which was on the left of the main driveway where she then lead us to the area where her horses were being kept. Due to some unfortunate health issues she has incurred the place was not as pristine as I am sure it once was, but that in no way took away from the joy of meeting this unusual horse breed. I recommend that anyone in the area that likes animals, especially horses should stop by for a visit. I suggest calling first to make sure she is home. She does not require any fee for visiting the horses, but will accept a donation to help her purchase feed and for Vet care. This nice lady will give you a very detailed history lesson of these beautiful and gentle horses."
