Fort Mulligan
Fort Mulligan, located at 100 Mulligan Drive in Petersburg, West Virginia, was a strategic site occupied by both Federal and Confederate troops during the Civil War. Constructed by Union troops under the command of Col. James A. Mulligan in 1863, the fort played a crucial role in patrolling against Confederate raids on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The fort was evacuated in 1864 before a Confederate attack, and was never occupied as a garrison again.
