The lighthouse, built in the 1950s on filled tideland, offers continuous public beach access and is surrounded by Lighthouse Park, a 14.4 acre site that underwent physical improvements as part of a master plan adopted by the city in 2004. The park features six fire pits along the beach, available on a first come, first served basis, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own firewood. Additionally, the park offers a boat launch parking permit for those looking to access the water. City Code specifies the park hours, with Lighthouse Park closing between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. from October 1st to April 30th, and between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. from May 1st to September 30th.
