Pickett House
β OpenThe Pickett House, located at 910 Bancroft Street in Bellingham, Washington, is a historic museum that holds significant importance in the city's history. Originally built in 1856 by Captain George E. Pickett, a veteran of the Mexican War, the house served as a place of security for early settlers fearing raids from the British Columbia First Nations people. The simple two-story building, made of undressed planks, is the oldest wooden building on its own foundation in Washington State. Captain Pickett's house has undergone several changes over the years, including the addition of a new kitchen and the conversion of the lean-to into a dining room. Despite these modifications, the house still retains its historical charm and serves as a reminder of Bellingham's earliest style.
