As citizen stewards of the park, we are dedicated to conserving and enhancing the natural and historic environments of the James River Park while providing recreational enjoyment for visitors. Before venturing into the James River, it is important to check the river levels to ensure safety. Life jackets are strongly recommended due to swift currents, hazards, and unknown depths. Ideal river levels for paddle sports, swimming, and recreation are between 4-5.5ft, while levels above 6ft are more hazardous.

As citizen stewards of the James River Park, we are dedicated to the conservation, enhancement, and recreational enjoyment of the park while protecting its natural and historic environments. Visitors are advised to check the river levels before venturing into the James River, as swift currents and hazards can pose risks. Life jackets are strongly recommended at all water levels. This 600-acre urban oasis offers a pristine bit of wilderness in the heart of Richmond. We are currently working on expanding the park with the Brander Street Property, a 4.5-acre parcel of land between Ancarrow's Landing and I-95. Visitors can also participate in events such as the Wood River Run and the Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week.
