This vast natural reserve spans over 12,000 acres of hardwood and mixed pine forests, featuring a 630-acre reservoir and 60 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The reserve is a vital piece of Virginia's green infrastructure, providing a source of fresh water for the region. Visitors can access the reserve through three parking lot entrances: the Boat Landing at the Reservoir, Bennett Springs, and Timberview. Passes are required for anyone over the age of 16, and can be purchased online or in-person at the Boat Landing office. The reserve is open seven days a week, offering different hours based on the season.
