The James River Park System Pony Pasture Trail is a beautiful 600-acre urban oasis located in Richmond, Virginia. As citizen stewards of the park, we are dedicated to conserving and enhancing the natural and historic environments of the James River Park while providing recreational enjoyment for visitors. Before venturing into the James River, it is important to check the river levels to ensure safety. Life jackets are strongly recommended due to swift currents, hazards, and unknown depths. Ideal river levels for paddle sports, swimming, and recreation are between 4-5.5ft, while levels above 6ft are more hazardous.
