Peaks View Park
Peaks View Park, located at 170 Ivy Creek Lane in Lynchburg, Virginia, is the second largest park in the city and a popular tourist attraction. The park offers a wide range of recreational activities for the whole family, including three lighted tennis courts, seven multi-purpose fields, volleyball courts, a basketball court, mountain bike trails, a pump track, and a disc golf course. The park also features a playground for children to enjoy. Originally a dairy farm, Peaks View Park was opened in 1983 after planning work began in 1979. The park's Ivy Creek Greenway offers a paved, ADA compliant trail for walking and biking, with additional walking trails throughout the park. The Bill Foot Recreational Area near the Ardmore and Tenbury Drive entrances features mountain bike trails suitable for riders of all skill levels, maintained by volunteers from the Greater Lynchburg Off-Road Cyclists.
Riverside Park
Riverside Park, located at 2238 Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg, Virginia, is one of the oldest and most beloved parks in the area. With over 49 acres of rolling parkland, the park offers beautiful views of the James River and wooded hillsides. Visitors can enjoy walking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, playground equipment, and a fully accessible playground. The park also features a sprayground, picnic shelters, and a gazebo available for rent for picnics, birthday parties, or family reunions. The park's transportation exhibit includes a train locomotive, tender, and caboose, as well as the Fink Deck Truss Bridge and the hull of the packet boat, Marshall. The Alpine Trail, the first dedicated hiking trail in Lynchburg, offers stunning views of the surrounding ravine and the James River.
