Sunken Garden
The Sunken Garden, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, is a beautiful park extending west from the historic Wren Building. Designed in the spirit of eighteenth-century English landscape gardens, the Sunken Garden features sweeping lawns that lead the eye towards the picturesque Crim Dell. The initial design was by College Architect Charles M. Robinson in the 1920s, with further enhancements by landscape architect Charles Gillette in the 1930s. As you approach the Sunken Garden, you will be greeted by two majestic oak trees, a willow oak and a water oak, along the walkway. The garden is also adorned with common boxwood, American Beech, and Crape Myrtle, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere for relaxation and recreation. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Sunken Garden, taking in the beauty of the landscape and the historic charm of the area. This institution is a true gem on the campus, offering a place to escape and connect with nature in the heart of Williamsburg.
