Carvins Cove Natural Reserve is a stunning park and tourist attraction located in Salem, Virginia, just seven miles from the north side of Roanoke. This vast natural reserve spans over 12,000 acres of hardwood and mixed pine forests, featuring a 630-acre reservoir and 60 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The reserve is a vital piece of Virginia's green infrastructure, providing a source of fresh water for the region. Visitors can access the reserve through three parking lot entrances: the Boat Landing at the Reservoir, Bennett Springs, and Timberview. Passes are required for anyone over the age of 16, and can be purchased online or in-person at the Boat Landing office. The reserve is open seven days a week, offering different hours based on the season.
