The Virginia Institute of Government, located in Richmond, Virginia, is dedicated to developing dynamic leaders to strengthen local governments. Through professional development, equity clinics, certification programs, customized training, and consulting services, VIG supports leaders at all levels of local government. Our mission is to build the capacity of local government staff and leaders to foster effective, high-performing, and inclusive governance. We serve local and state government leaders nationwide, as well as students interested in public service opportunities. Our services include strategic planning, economic development, budgeting, organizational development, executive coaching, diversity and equity training, and more. We also partner with the Growth and Opportunity Virginia Region 3 Council to advance economic, workforce, and community development in Southern Virginia. Additionally, we offer the Wallerstein Scholars program for college students interested in gaining hands-on experience in public service. The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, within VIG, provides rigorous training programs and nationally recognized research to support policymakers, elected officials, students, governments, and community leaders in Virginia and beyond.
