"By far our favorite hike! Yes, it is a bit challenging on the way back up/out about a 1000 elevation change but well worth it! There is a large parking and picnic area plus primitive bathrooms. The loop is a little over 4 miles total, the trail is well maintained with some rocky sections. Half the trail runs along the stream and ends in a tall waterfall overlook. The view is ok but I recommend the additional 0.8 mile or so the base of the falls. The extra hike to the falls is a little more challenging than the rest since it is rocky and requires a little bit of climbing over rocks. The result is a beautiful 83-foot split fall. On the way up/out we took the fire road trail, it is a steadier incline and smoother terrain which we apricated. Beautiful day and great adventure!"
"App. 4-mile loop: Great downhill at first from the park lot then uphill, not too intense of a slope, and substrate is easy to walk on and clearly maintained. The hills are adorned with many ferns (which are fabulous in the winter) and when you get downslope, you’ll find the vivacious stream littered by mossy rocks and you’ll just follow that until it plateaus a little where you’ll then discover the famed waterfall (which plummets from what I saw — a good 100 ft. or so.)."
"It's good for astrography since there is barely any light pollution other than the moon. Good to do it in the fall, but careful the falling leaves and acorns sound like there is always a bear behind you, sooo not for the light-hearted . Also, restrooms and water doesnt stops dont work nighttime."
"It’s a pretty hike but the falls are unimpressive- dark hollows is prettier and shorter. The observation point doesn’t have a great view of the falls and the hike back is very steep."
"Hiked the trail to the overlook to see the falls (2.6 miles round-trip). It's not steep, but there is a good elevation drop on the way down to the falls, so a bit of a climb on the way back. Most trees hadn't bloomed yet (late March), but the hike was still very enjoyable. There is not a perfectly clear view of the falls from the overlook or near it due to the trees, but since they didn't have leaves yet we could see it fairly well. Nice picnic area at trail head. Pit toilets and non-potable water are available in the off-season (so need to boil or filter)."
