"My father was a patient of Dr Naji this past year, up until last month when he went into hospice. From the very first appointment with him, my mother in law noticed that dr Naji would not speak directly to her and would only speak to my father. When she would ask questions and describe symptoms (my father didn’t like to speak up so she took the initiative) dr Naji would completely ignore her or he would respond with a condescending remark and act as though she was bothering him. As my fathers cancer progressed, there was no direct communication with the doctor even to go over test results. They had to wait until their next scheduled appointment which was sometimes weeks. Last August my father experienced pleural effusion. Testing was done on the fluid and results were posted to his medical chart which my parents have access to online. Because my mother in law was not being told anything, I took it upon myself to research the key terms and findings from the pathology report. It appeared he had another, separate form of cancer. Not once did Dr Naji explain this to them. He did order another round of chemo which the cancer did not respond to. As the cancer took over my fathers body, my mother in law continued to try to get answers from the doctor, to no avail. It became very obvious to us that my father would not survive this. Extreme weight loss, lethargy, weakness, confusion, no appetite. His decline was so rapid that there were noticeable changes from day to day, let alone week to week. My mother in law cried out to Dr Naji at one of their last appointments to help her and give her some direction. She flat out asked him if dad was going to die from this. Dr Naji’s response? “These are normal symptoms of advanced cancer.”. No empathy, no compassion, no insight, no guidance. My father in law has now recently passed away and Dr Naji has just washed his hands of it. This doctor may have impressive credentials but he has zero “bedside manner” or communication skills, especially for an oncologist who regularly treats patients at the end of their lives who are already going through such a difficult ordeal. I believe he also has something against dealing with women in general. In my opinion, he would be better suited behind the scenes and using his experience and knowledge that way rather than treating patients. Edited to add: To whom it may concern, I have emailed the address given to me in your response to my review. Thus far, no one has responded to my email. I can only assume the response was automated and no one actually checks that email. Disappointing."
