"This place completely lost its charm after Covid. You used to get your sweet tea in cute little mason jars…now everything is served in styrofoam and it totally kills the vibe. When I go out to eat I don’t want my food served in a doggie bag. We won’t be going back."
"This is a hidden gem. It doesn't look like much, but they have some really good options for different ice creams, floats, sundaes & smoothies. They get you as you're coming through the door & the people at the register really help you select a good option for your liking. I'm not sure if they make their own ice cream, but it's really good. I like it better than Brahm's ice cream."
"Cute spot, but food and service weren't so great. Really wanted to like it. Food served in Styrofoam containers; weird and awkward at the table."
"Great place across from the courthouse. The food was good (although they did give me the wrong chicken salad sandwich). I liked that you could substitute veggies in a cup for the side to the sandwich (the cup had carrots, celery and cucumbers and included a cup of ranch dressing for dipping the veggies). For dessert I ordered the “smallest chocolate sundae” which was larger than I expected given the name. It was good but I wish it was possible to have hot fudge as an option vs only chocolate syrup. I’m also not sure what they are using for whipped cream because it had no flavor. The bright colors and “soda fountain” vibe evoke the 1950’s so I found it strange they played 80’s music. I followed the sign that pointed to “Fresh Picked candy corn” and found myself passing the entry to the men’s toilet on the right, and further down on the left a pile of boxes. The destination turned out to be a very small space that can be accessed from the outside that has a wall of a variety of regular candies. I do think a little kid would enjoy picking out candy that was individually wrapped (I could picture a kid grabbing a handful at a time) but was, overall, disappointed with the look of the hallway and what was in the room. I hope the owners will work on the trip down the hallway - although, perhaps it is a “hall” less taken by others!! While I would have liked some tweaks, I did enjoy going and will try it again when I’m in town. PS If you pay with cash, you get a slight discount - although you may need to help the cashier figure out your change."
"For out-of-town visitors, this is a fun, quaint old-school soda fountain located directly in the center of historic downtown Waxahachie. It’s near several really interesting local businesses and the courthouse. The interior is well-maintained and speaks of days gone by. We were there during the lunch hour, yet we had prompt service. The taco soup is excellent, as is Aunt Sally’s Chicken Salad sandwich with lots of nuts and fresh grapes. They toasted the sandwich bread for me, and it was done perfectly. We can also speak for the Broccoli Cheese Soup and egg salad sandwiches – which are both also good. Everything we’ve had tastes homemade and delicious. Handmade sandwiches to order, exceptional hand-mixed sodas, and sweet ice cream for dessert. The scoops are very generous. My son enjoys buying their cookies to go; the chocolate pecan bar is a favorite. The nostalgic Banana Splits and Root Beer Floats are another favorite. For me, it’s the French press coffee that I take to go. Casual dining with great food. You can pick anywhere to sit and wait for your order to be brought to your table. It was very busy, meticulously clean, and obviously a favorite of locals. It’s a place to go for a healthy, nutritious lunch at a fair price. Parking can be a challenge. We found a parking ramp a few blocks away and found the walk there very pleasant. Being someone who enjoys history, it was charming to see the original safe is still there. All the big windows let the sunshine pour in, and we enjoyed the view while dining."
