Sneed House
● OpenThe Sneed House, located at 1801 Nelms Drive in Austin, Texas, is a historic former limestone plantation house commissioned by Judge Sebron Graham Sneed. Built in the mid-19th century, it is one of the few surviving pre-Civil War structures in the city. The house was likely designed by architect Abner Hugh Cook, known for designing the Texas Governor's Mansion. The Sneed House was built by Sneed's slaves using limestone quarried from the farm. The property also included a 470-acre farm purchased by Sneed in 1850. During the Civil War, the house served as a recruiting station or Confederate hospital. After the war, the slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.
