Alamo Plaza
β OpenAlamo Plaza is a historic tourist attraction located in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The plaza holds significant historical importance, as it was the site of indigenous camps before the arrival of the Spanish in the 17th century. The area was later home to Mission San Antonio de Valero, which eventually became known as the Alamo. Throughout the years, the plaza saw various military activities, including during the Texas Revolution in 1836. After Texas' annexation to the United States in 1845, the U.S. Army used the Alamo property as a supply depot. The plaza underwent further changes during the post-Civil War era, becoming a bustling cattle town with cowboys and livestock passing through. In the late 19th century, the city of San Antonio worked to develop the plaza, leading to the demolition of historic structures and the city's purchase of the area.
