Hogg Bird Sanctuary
β OpenHogg Bird Sanctuary, located at 1 Westcott Street in Houston, Texas, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction that is home to a variety of local bird species. Nesting birds such as the White-winged Dove, Carolina Wren, Northern Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse, and Blue Jay can be found here, along with waterbirds like the Snowy Egret, Great Blue Heron, and Belted Kingfisher that visit from nearby Buffalo Bayou. The sanctuary also serves as a resting spot for migratory birds passing through the area. In 2017, a steering committee was formed by the Houston Parks Board, Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Memorial Park Conservancy to recommend improvements to the sanctuary based on a commissioned study on its ecological significance. Reforestation efforts have since begun, including clearing invasive species and planting native trees, with plans to continue planting seedlings every few years.
