The preserve, established by The Nature Conservancy, spans over 32,844 acres and is home to diverse plant and animal species. With nearly 110,000 acres of the Davis Mountains region protected, the preserve provides important wildlife corridors and habitat for rare species. Closed to the public for most of the year for research and conservation-related activities, the Davis Mountains Preserve opens on select weekends for camping, hiking, biking, equestrian activities, picnics, photography, birding, and more. Visitors can explore the stunning landscapes, towering Ponderosa pine trees, cool mountain creeks, and dramatic views of canyons and peaks. The preserve is also home to a variety of wildlife including black bears, bobcats, elk, mountain lions, and a wide range of bird species.
