Obion County Health Department
The Obion County Health Department, located at 1008 Mount Zion Road in Union City, Tennessee, is a local government office dedicated to protecting, promoting, and improving the health and prosperity of the people in Tennessee. Dr. John Dreyzehner, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health, established the Primary Prevention Initiative (PPI) in 2012 to focus on primary prevention efforts, such as eliminating risk factors for later health problems. In Obion County, the PPI Teams focus on obesity and teen pregnancy prevention, offering programs on self-esteem, nutrition, exercise, and workplace wellness. The PPI Staff recently hosted a successful program with the Obion County Cub Scouts, educating them on bone health and engaging them in a fun game of "Bone Bingo." The Obion County Community Health Council, made up of interested residents, works to address health issues and improve outcomes in the community, with a focus on tobacco use and prevention, obesity, and teen pregnancy prevention.
